Naomi must have been an incredible mother, so trusted and admired how she must have conducted herself in the face of insurmountable grief and hardship. Not just the incalculable sadness of the loss of her husband and both sons, but now no one to work to care for her needs. Her disposition, her attitude, her willingness to look at herself and not let selfishness push her, but instead wanting only the best provision for her daughter’s-in-law at her expense, which would mean more loss. She felt God’s hand was against her, yet she didn’t allow the bitterness of loss in her own soul dictate how she dealt with others.
Oh, to be such a woman!
Then there is Ruth. Young enough to start again if she had even just a bit of selfishness in her. Instead, she loved selflessly as she saw modeled in Naomi. She wanted to be just like her. Her declaration of complete dedication to become and emulate, at drastic personal loss, is staggering. She trusted and explicitly obeyed unyieldingly in her love for another to which she wielded no control.
Oh, to be such a woman!
What could God do for such a woman? Only everything!
